Floods in Mangochi Affect Over 1,100 Households, 3 Dead, 48 Injured

Over 1,100 households have been severely affected by floods in Mangochi district, which struck over the weekend, between 31 January and 1 February 2025.

According to Bishop Witmos, the Information Officer for Mangochi district, the floods have tragically resulted in the death of 3 people and 48 injuries.

Currently, the district has established three camps to shelter those displaced by the floods. The camps are located at:

  • Mpinganjira Primary School, housing 160 households (701 people)
  • Nesenga Community Day Secondary School, accommodating 21 households (67 people)
  • Changamire Primary School, providing shelter to 111 households (300 people)

The flooding has affected communities in three Traditional Authorities: Mapira, Mponda, and Chimwala. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation and provide support to the displaced families.
