In Kasungu, the Second Grade Magistrate court has today sentenced a 26 year-old man, Yona Banda, to serve concurrent jail terms of five years for house breaking, and three years for the offence of theft.
Banda, committed the offence on 18th February this year, after he entered into his parents’matrimonial bedroom and stole money amounting to K800,000.
The state through, Tawina Misinde, asked the court to give the convict stiffer punishment, arguing that he pre-planned to commit the offence and successfully succeeded.
In his judgement, Second Grade Magistrate, Samuel Chakudza, concurred with the state on the basis that the victim suffered a total loss.
He said the convict did not show remorse by stealing from his biological father, hence it was proper to slap him with stiffer punishment to set as a lesson to others.
Yona Banda, hails from Tcheza village in the area of Traditional Authority Nyanja in Kasungu District.
