The Senior Resident Magistrate Court sitting in Nkhata Bay has convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old Mpamba Youth Network Chairperson, Tremour Chirambo, to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for having sexual intercourse with a female child.

The court heard through state prosecutor Andrew Singini that Chirambo committed had four times unprotected sex with a Mathamanda primary school 14-year-old standard 7 girl in four consecutive days from May 13 to 16, 2025, at his home.

Singini said the two were in a relationship and the incident happened after the girl reported home late from Mpamba market, prompting her grandmother to chase her back, and she opted to seek refuge at her boyfriend’s home.

In mitigation, Chirambo told the court that it was the Civil Society Organisation’s failure to disseminate messages about the dangers of having sexual intercourse with the minors rather than only focusing on HIV/AIDS; given a chance, he could advocate for himself.

In submission, Singini prayed for a deterrent sentence, arguing that as a leader, Chirambo could have advocated for the rights of a girl child, but he planned the crime; hence, the sentence by the Senior Resident Magistrate Godfrey Nyirenda.
