Two Police Officers, Businessman Get 10 Years for Torturing Boy in Custody

The First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Mulanje has sentenced two police officers, Stanley Chigaru and Charles Mbewe, along with businessman Mavuto Chikhwaza, to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for their involvement in the brutal assault of a 13-year-old boy that led to the amputation of both his arms.

Delivering the judgment, Magistrate Gift Msume also imposed an additional two-year sentence on each of the convicts for neglect of duty.

However, the court ruled that the sentences will run concurrently.
