4 Dead, 15 Injured in Zambia Truck Accident,Driver on the Run

Four people have died and 15 others are receiving treatment for various injuries after a light truck they were traveling in lost control and overturned in Kapwila, approximately 40 kilometers west of Nakonde in Zambia, on Wednesday morning around 05:00 hours.

Three children aged between three months and one year six months miraculously escaped the crash unharmed.

The victims were en route from Kayambi Village in Mungwi District, Northern Province, to Nakonde District in Muchinga Province for business. According to eyewitnesses, the journey began on Tuesday, May 27, at around 18:00 hours.

Local resident Humphrey Simusamba, who was heading to his farm in Izuwa Village, was the first to arrive at the scene. He immediately rushed the most critically injured to Nakonde District Hospital.

The driver of the truck was not found at the scene and is reportedly on the run. Police visited the scene shortly after the crash, but have yet to issue an official statement.

Nakonde District Commissioner Marvelous Sikapizye visited the injured at the hospital and described the accident as tragic. One person remains in critical condition, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Nakonde District Hospital mortuary.

This is the third serious road accident reported in Nakonde District this week. Two earlier crashes occurred at Ilendela on Monday, leaving several people injured but no fatalities.
