Healthy Surveillance Assistance (HSA) interviews which were held on 31 May 2025 across the country have revealed how serious youth unemployment rate is in Malawi.
According to The National Advocacy Platform (NAP), high number of youths showed up for the interview, indicating that many youths are not not employed and the government is not serious about helping them finding jobs. NAP stated that job creation promises have not been kept.
NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe, said the high attendance of youths proves that many young people in Malawi are struggling to find jobs and the government’s promise to create 1 million jobs has not been fulfilled.
Kondowe also asked the government to stop using walk in interviews, saying that they are not a fair and effective way to hire people.
