Miss Tourism Africa Malawi 2024, Anita Phoenix, daughter of football legend Patrick Mabedi, has taken to social media to defend herself after facing a wave of body-shaming comments from internet trolls.
In a post made yesterday on her official Facebook page, Anita addressed several derogatory remarks made under a video where she was imitating her partner, believed to be footballer Nicholas Jackson.
“So I’ve seen quite a few comments under the video… some of you are calling me ‘chicken legs,’” she wrote.
Phoenix firmly defended her physique, proudly stating: “I’ve got amazing thighs . and that’s not up for debate. I was a high school footballer and ran the 100m/200m sprints. Any athlete knows that sprinters often don’t develop much in the chest area due to intense training.”
She called out one particularly disrespectful comment that read: “Wouldn’t want to see you naked not appetising.”
“Honestly, that’s just unnecessary and disrespectful,” she responded. “If I lined up all my pictures showing off my thighs, you’d probably take those words back real quick. And let’s be clear I look absolutely sexy, even in a thong.”
In a powerful conclusion, Anita condemned the trend of body shaming, especially from some Malawian men, stating:
“It’s a real disgrace. You’re the same ones constantly chasing different women because you’re too focused on unrealistic ideals. I’m happy with my body. I love my body. And I don’t need validation from people who don’t even know how to appreciate a real woman.”
Body shaming remains a prevalent issue in Malawi’s online spaces, particularly targeting women in the public eye. Musician Tuno has also spoken out in the past about receiving such abuse, often responding with an equally defiant tone.
Anita Phoenix’s bold stance is resonating with many fans, with supporters applauding her for her confidence and for promoting body positivity in the face of toxic social media criticism.
