Renowned lawyer Bob Chimkango has been fined a total of K40,000 by the Midima Magistrate Court in Limbe after being found guilty of two traffic-related offences.
The case, presided over by First Grade Magistrate Lameck Mkwapatira on Wednesday, followed Chimkango’s arrest at Bangwe Weaving Factory.
Prosecutor Superintendent Lloyd Magwenje told the court that Chimkango failed to stop when signaled by police at a roadblock and was also found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
He pleaded guilty to both charges.
The court ordered him to pay K25,000 for failing to comply with a police stop signal, contrary to Section 39(3) of the Police Act, and K15,000 for drunk driving under Section 128 of the Road Traffic Act.
