A 22-year-old man, Maxwell Million, has been arrested by Namadzi Police in Chiradzulu on suspicion of murdering two elderly sisters, Rosibery Time (73) and Christina Likongwe (69).

According to Chiradzulu Police Public Relations Officer, Cosmas Kagulo, the gruesome incident occurred on June 10, 2025, along Ntanangala River in Nsanja Village, Traditional Authority Mpama, where the two women had gone to wash clothes.

Kagulo said the bodies were discovered by a passerby who noticed blood stains near the riverbank and alerted authorities. Police and medical personnel from Mbulumbuzi Health Centre rushed to the scene and found the lifeless bodies hidden behind a rock.

“One of the women had a deep cut to the neck, while the other showed signs of strangulation and had a broken arm,” said Kagulo.

Postmortem results confirmed that one of the victims died due to excessive bleeding, while the other died from suffocation.

Following investigations, police arrested Maxwell Million, who is from the same village as the victims. He is currently in custody and is expected to undergo a mental assessment before appearing in court.

Police say the motive behind the killings is still under investigation.
