The Neno First Grade Magistrate has convicted and ordered three women to pay a fine of K50,000 each or in default serve 3 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing 28 bags of maize.

The three have been identified as Josephine Msuse aged 19, Esther Mtendere aged 22, both from Kamoto village, from senior chief Dambe and Edda Mlotta aged 30, from Donda 2 village, T/A Cheku-cheku in Neno district.

The court heard through State Prosecutor, Alex Boko, that between June 2 and 9, 2025, the convicts stole maize and other items belonging to Loveness Chingwalu, a business woman at her lodge’s warehouse valued at K2,199,000.00.

Appearing before court, the three pleaded guilty to the charge of theft by servant and asked the court for forgiveness but the state prayed for a stiffer punishment to deter would-be offenders.

Passing sentence, First Grade Magistrate Margret Khobiri concurred with the state and ordered the convicts to pay a fine of K50,000 each or serve a 3 months jail term with hard labour.
