34 People Affected By Mpox In Lilongwe

A total of 36 people have so far been infected with Mpox in Lilongwe, with most case grounds among students and business people.

According to officials from the Lilongwe City Council, the students and business people are the main groups which are being  affected by the disease.

Richard Mvula, a spokesperson for the health department in Lilongwe, said students and business people make up 24 out of every hundred cases in the city.

He  added that 8% of people suffering from Mpox are sex workers and Kabaza driver and also noted that Area 25 has the highest number of Mpox cases in Lilongwe.

Mpox outbreak was officially declared in Malawi on 17 April 2025, after the first case was confirmed on 16 April 2025.
