Kanengo Police in Area 25, Lilongwe, have arrested eight individuals on suspicion of engaging in criminal activities.

The suspects include Robert Petro, 30, Leonard Kamphale, 48, and Patrick Mtengula, 36 — all of whom are already serving prison sentences. The other suspects are Thokozani Henry, 32, Madalitso Chidzanja, 28, Richard Moyo, 33, Andrew Zimba, 30, and Henry Ebele, 44.

According to Kanengo Police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira, the suspects are believed to be part of a criminal gang that has been operating in Area 25, using dangerous weapons to carry out a series of robberies.

Ngwira said the gang is linked to the “Area 25 C crime ring,” where they allegedly stole 35 million Kwacha and other items valued at over 40 million Kwacha.

The spokesperson added that the suspects are also believed to have robbed three other individuals in the Spama area. Police first apprehended Andrew Zimba, 30, and later arrested the remaining suspects at a guesthouse where they were reportedly planning further criminal activities.
