A South African national, Gevree Vanrenbelk, has gone missing in Nyika National Park, located in Rumphi District.
According to Brighton Kumchedwa, Director of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, Vanrenbelk disappeared on Thursday—just two days after arriving in the country.
On the day of the incident, Vanrenbelk and his wife had driven into the park but reportedly got lost. His wife told authorities that her husband left the vehicle on foot to search for a way out and never returned. That was the last time she saw him.
Confused and unsure of what to do, the wife contacted Vanrenbelk’s brother in South Africa, who then notified park officials. Rangers tracked the vehicle and found her safe.
A search party of over 50 people, including park rangers and other personnel, has since been deployed in the ongoing effort to locate Vanrenbelk.
