Nkoloma’s MEC appointment reversed

President Lazarus Chakwera has rescinded the appointment of Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) lecturer in telecommunications Mayamiko Nkoloma as Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioner.
In a letter to chairperson for MEC, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, Secretary to President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba says the decision has been arrived at because Nkoloma is a public officer.
Nkoloma’s appointment on July 24 2025, followed a recommendation by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), only to have that reversed on July 27 2025
DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito has confirmed the development, and says the party will submit a new name for consideration.
