The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson Shadric Namalomba on charges of misuse of public office and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to ACB senior public relations officer Jacqueline Ngongonda, the offences are linked to Namalomba’s tenure as Commissioner for Customs and Excise at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in 2015.

A complaint lodged on 27 March 2025 alleged that Namalomba facilitated the release and export of banned Mukula logs, defying a 2008 ban by the Ministry of Trade.

Investigations revealed that the logs were unlawfully transferred to Elvis Freight and Cargo Services Limited.
This facility is reportedly associated with businessman and United Transformation Movement (UTM) patron Noel Masangwi.

The ACB found that both Namalomba and Masangwi bypassed customs protocols to enable the illegal export.

Authorities say the actions violated official procedures and involved abuse of public office for private gain.

Namalomba is expected to appear before court soon.
