Missing Kingfisher Insurance Manager Found Dead in Shire River

The body of Mark Shannon Munthali, a 41-year-old branch manager for Kingfisher Insurance Brokers in Lilongwe, has been found floating in the Shire River, days after he was reported missing.
Munthali, who hailed from Ngosi Village under Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga District, was last seen on July 29, 2025. According to police reports, he allegedly threw himself into the Shire River near Zalewa and abandoned his company vehicle, a Toyota with registration number BX 6396, which was discovered parked at a nearby grocery known as Pashire Refresh Relax.
Police have now confirmed that on Monday, August 4, 2025, around noon, a body was discovered floating in the river at Chimwambiya area. The remains were positively identified by his elder brother, Gladson Munthali, a Blantyre-based businessman.
A postmortem conducted by a clinical officer from Zalewa Health Centre revealed that the cause of death was suffocation secondary to drowning. Police have since classified the case as suicide.
Zalewa Police say investigations have been concluded, and they are now appealing to the public to seek help or speak out when struggling with mental health issues.
