Wife who donated liver to her husband dies alongside him following surgery

India – A woman who donated part of her liver to her husband died just days after he passed away following a transplant surgery at a private hospital in Pune.
The Maharashtra health department has issued a notice to Sahyadri Hospital, seeking details of the transplant procedure.
“We have issued a notice to the hospital and sought details of the recipient and the donor, their video recordings, and the line of treatment,” said Dr. Nagnath Yempalle, Deputy Director of Health Services.
The hospital has been asked to submit all requested information by 10 a.m. on Monday, August 25.
The surgeries for Bapu Komkar and his wife Kamini were conducted on August 15; he died on August 17, and she passed away on August 21 after developing an infection.
The Komkar family has alleged medical negligence and demanded an investigation into the deaths.
In a statement, the hospital said, “We are fully cooperating in the investigation… and providing all necessary information.”
“The recipient was a high-risk person with many complications,” the hospital added, noting that the family was fully informed of the risks.
On Kamini’s death, the hospital stated, “She initially recovered well, but later developed septic shock and multi-organ dysfunction.”
