A 50-year-old man, identified as Jalawanda Nambazo, has died in Phalombe District after reportedly jumping from a moving lorry on Monday morning.

Phalombe Police spokesperson Jimmy Kapanja confirmed the incident, saying the tragedy occurred when the lorry accidentally hooked a supporting wire of an electric pole, causing a heavy spark.

Frightened, Jalawanda jumped from the vehicle but was run over by the rear near-side tyre, sustaining severe head injuries. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Nambazo Health Centre.

According to police, the lorry was loaded with cement blocks and was traveling from Malinguni Trading Centre to Nambazo Village Trading Centre with four passengers on board.
