Nurse and Daughter to Late Poet O’Brien Nazombe Dies in Blantyre After Short Illness

The local arts community is mourning the death of Rittah Ekari Nazombe, the first-born daughter of the late O’Brien Nazombe, a renowned poet and former presenter of the Patsinde poetry program on Joy Radio.

Rittah passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, October 16, 2025, at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre after a short illness.

According to family sources, Rittah, who worked as a nurse in Lilongwe, had been unwell for a brief period before her passing.

Confirming the sad news, Devlin Nazombe, a family member and brother to Rittah’s late father, shared a heartfelt message on his Facebook page expressing the family’s grief.

Funeral Program

October 16, 2025: The body will arrive at the family home in Machinjiri Area 3 (near Anaduwe) at 2 PM.

October 17, 2025: Burial will take place at Machinjiri South Lunzu CCAP Cemetery.

The Nazombe family has since requested prayers and support as they mourn the loss of Rittah, described by those who knew her as “kind-hearted and dedicated to her work.”
