Body of Filmmaker Ashukile Mwakisulu to Be Laid to Rest in Karonga on Wednesday

The body of renowned filmmaker and actor Ashukile Mwakisulu will be laid to rest on Wednesday at his home village under Traditional Authority Kilipula in Karonga District.

Mwakisulu, who once served as Vice Chairperson of the Film Association of Malawi, passed away on Monday at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

His brother Wandumi Mwakisulu confirmed the development, saying the body will be taken to Mthunzi on Tuesday, followed by a memorial service at Lunzu Assemblies of God Church before transportation to Karonga for burial.

Mwakisulu was well-known for his work in celebrated Shemu Joyah films such as The Last Fishing Boat and Road to Sunrise. He also directed his own productions including All We Have is Us and Goal Line.

Additionally, he starred in popular Malawian television dramas such as Mitekete and Choices, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and dedication to the local film industry.
