Tragedy has struck in Lilongwe City, where a man identified as Kashoni Chimwenje, who worked as a minibus caller, has been found dead in an apparent suicide at a lodge in Chigwirizano Township.

According to Charles Phiri, a medical worker at Kamuzu Central Hospital, preliminary examinations confirmed that Chimwenje died by hanging, and the condition of his body showed that he had been dead for some time before being discovered.

Police officers who visited the scene said they received a distress call in the afternoon reporting that a body had been found at the lodge. They immediately contacted medical personnel to examine the scene.

A relative of the deceased revealed that Chimwenje had been staying at the lodge as though it were his home after being away from his family for some time.

His body was found with a rope tied to metal bars of a window inside one of the rooms.

Police say investigations are underway to establish the motive behind the incident.
