A traffic controller identified as McLoud Maluwa, 51, from Eliya Village, Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa District has died after a motor vehicle hit him whilst on duty at a road maintenance site along the Lilongwe- Salima Road in Katengeza Village, Dowa District.
Public Relations Officer for Dowa Police Station Sub Inspector Alice Sitima has confirmed the incident indicating that it involved a Toyota Dyna 3-tonner registration number LL 15256, driven by Titus Mdenthe.
Sitima said the vehicle was traveling from Lilongwe towards Salima with two passengers on board.
“Upon reaching a gentle slope at Katengeza Village, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed where he hit Maluwa, who was managing traffic at a section of the road under maintenance where vehicles were using a single lane,”Sitima said.
She indicated that the vehicle veered off to the far offside dirt verge before coming to a stop.
“Maluwa sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Salima District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment while the driver and the two passengers sustained minor injuries,” she revealed.
