Unrest at Chayamba Secondary in Kasungu: Classroom and Offices Set Ablaze

Information reaching this publication indicates that students at Chayamba Secondary School in Kasungu District allegedly torched a classroom, the deputy head teacher’s office, a store, and smashed windows of several other classrooms.
The incident occurred last night, and by this morning students were seen leaving the campus with their belongings.
According to some students, a group of Form 4 learners, fearing expulsion over pending disciplinary action, led the unrest.
The group had reportedly been caught bullying Form 1 students and, after a meeting held on the school playground, mobilized their peers to vandalize school property.
While school authorities have not yet issued a statement, Central East Education Division Manager Dickens Mbewa has cautioned students against such conduct, noting that it mirrors a recent incident at Chulu CDSS.
