The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has issued a strong warning to criminals following the arrest of an armed robbery suspect during an undercover operation at Mbowe Filling Station in Lilongwe.

The suspect was shot and arrested after attempting to rob an undercover police officer on the night of January 10, 2026. Police say the suspect, who was armed with a knife, posed an imminent threat, forcing officers to lawfully use force.

MPS says the suspect is currently under medical care and will be taken to court once his condition improves.

National Police Deputy Spokesperson Alfred Chimthere said officers have since intensified patrols in both urban and rural areas, assuring the public of continued professionalism in protecting lives and property.
