As one of way of combating the impact of climate change, Old Mutual Malawi in partnership with Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM) has conducted a tree-planting exercise at Nguludi in Chiradzulu District as part of its environmental conservation programme.

The initiative implemented, took place at Nguludi Girls Primary School in the District.

Mlenga expressed satisfaction with the commitment shown by the Nguludi community in caring for the trees. She recalled that a similar exercise was conducted last year at Nguludi Boys Primary School, where approximately 64 percent of the planted trees survived.

She further disclosed that since 2017, Old Mutual has planted over 90,000 trees nationwide as part of its environmental conservation efforts. She added that the company has invested K10.5 million in the current tree-planting initiative and plans to supply and plant 10,000 seedlings.

On his par, Chairperson for WESM Blantyre Branch, Chris Dow, said the organisation partnered with Old Mutual to support environmental restoration, which is one of WESM’s core mandates.
