Police have not yet charged former cabinet minister Sosten Gwengwe, who was arrested on Wednesday in Lilongwe.
His lawyer, George Jivason Kadzipatike, confirmed that police are expected to record a statement from Gwengwe this morning. Kadzipatike said they are hopeful the matter will proceed to court tomorrow.
Gwengwe, a senior member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), continues to serve as Chairperson of Parliament’s Budget and Finance Committee, which is scheduled to meet today on parliamentary business, despite his arrest.
