Floods Displace Families in Chikwawa as Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc

Families from several villages in Chikwawa District have been left stranded after heavy rains caused flooding that submerged homes and washed away others earlier today.

Member of Parliament for the central constituency in the district, Gelard Bede, told Zodiak Online that the situation is dire in villages such as Isso, Ntondeza, Nthumba and Berewu.

Bede has since appealed to government to urgently intervene with food assistance and temporary shelter to protect the affected families.

Meanwhile, District Disaster Risk Management Officer Charity Machika says her office is currently conducting assessments to establish the exact number of people affected by the floods.
