The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Mulanje District has sentenced 21-year-old Evelyn Roderick to four years’ imprisonment for burglary and one year for theft.
The court heard that on the 5th and 6th of this month, the woman broke into two houses and stole various items.
In her ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Gloria Mwatiwamba said she had imposed the sentence despite the woman’s pregnancy in order to protect the property and wealth of the community.
Roderick hails from Muluvala Village, under Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje District.
