The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has written to Attorney General Frank Mbeta urging him to resign over alleged involvement in a corruption scandal.
CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa said the resignation would allow Mbeta to clear his name amid the allegations.
The concerns stem from a court order Mbeta reportedly obtained to stop the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) from executing a warrant of arrest.
Namiwa raised the issue on Wednesday during a press briefing in Blantyre.
He said the order was granted by Justice Zione Ntaba of the Zomba High Court.
According to Namiwa, the matter raises serious questions about Mbeta’s integrity and his suitability to serve as head of the bar.
The issue was initially highlighted by lawyer Alexious Kamangira, while Mbeta has not yet commented on the allegations.
