The number of people who have died after eating food suspected to have been poisoned in Binga Mvula Village, under Senior Chief Chawanda in Ntchisi, has risen to four.

This follows the death of a woman who was admitted to Ntchisi District Hospital yesterday along with a young child. The development has been confirmed by the Malawi Police Service.

Speaking to Zodiak Online, Ntchisi Police spokesperson Jessy Phimba said officers are currently working with health officials to establish the cause of the tragic incident.

Police have identified the deceased woman as Agnes Lyton, aged 47, while investigations to confirm details regarding the child are still underway.

Authorities say investigations continue as they seek to determine exactly what led to the suspected poisoning.
