The Ntcheu Magistrate Court has postponed to Monday and Tuesday next week the hearing of a case in which four men are accused of stealing 423 bags of NPK fertiliser worth more than K63 million.

The fertiliser was reportedly designated for distribution under the Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (FISP), managed by the Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM). It was intended for beneficiaries in the area of Traditional Authority Njolomole.

The accused persons, Gregory Mchinyira, Khama Chisoni Rodrick, Emmanuel Quntino and Alfred Gibson, are facing theft charges in connection with the consignment.

During proceedings, the State successfully applied for the release of 400 bags of the recovered fertiliser, while 23 bags have been retained by the court as exhibits.

Senior Resident Magistrate Iman Alley-Abu also ordered the arrest of Mchinyira and Rodrick after they failed to appear in court.

The magistrate assured that the matter will be handled swiftly to ensure timely justice.
