Police in Nkhotakota have arrested two men, Yamikani Nkhoma, 28, and Blessings Banda, 26, for allegedly breaking into a building and stealing two motorcycles.
Nkhotakota Police Station spokesperson Chisomo Chuma confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects were apprehended at Kaombe Roadblock.
According to Chuma, the two allegedly broke into a storeroom belonging to Effie Munthali Chitenje around midnight and stole two motorcycles.
Chitenje reportedly discovered the break-in when she went outside to answer a call of nature and noticed that the storeroom had been forced open. She immediately raised an alarm, prompting community members to join the search for the stolen motorcycles.
Police later intercepted the suspects while they were riding the unregistered motorcycles and recovered tools believed to have been used in the crime. The tools included a crowbar, a small axe, and screwdrivers.
