Two people have died in separate road accidents that occurred along the M1 Road in Kasungu District.
According to Kasungu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Miracle Hauli, the first incident happened on March 8, 2026, at Kawinama Village along the Jenda–Kasungu M1 Road.
Hauli said Isaac Nkhoma was driving a Nissan Dualis from Jenda towards Kasungu with one passenger on board when he hit a pedestrian, Brenda Mwandira (30), who was crossing the road from right to left.
Due to the impact, Mwandira sustained a head injury and a deep cut on her right leg and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nkhamenya Mission Hospital.
In a separate incident, a motorcyclist identified as Yembekezani Makina died in a hit-and-run accident that occurred at Solid One along the Kasungu–Lilongwe M1 Road on March 7, 2026.
Police say the crash happened when an unknown vehicle, which was overtaking another vehicle, collided head-on with Makina’s motorcycle before fleeing the scene.
