Police in Nkhata Bay District have arrested two men, Junior Mwale and Levison Mwale, both aged 25, in connection with the murder of Tobias Chirwa.
The suspects, who come from Katuwa Village under Traditional Authority Kabunduli, were arrested yesterday.
According to Devoter Mithi, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Malawi Police Service in Nkhata Bay, the incident is believed to have stemmed from a dispute that began in February 2026 when Chirwa reportedly drank beer on credit at a bar owned by Junior Mwale but failed to pay the bill.
On March 4, Mwale confronted Chirwa at the bar, which led to a quarrel. During the altercation, Levison Mwale allegedly joined the fight, forcing Chirwa to flee the scene.
Police say later that night Chirwa allegedly returned armed with a knife and attacked the two suspects as they were heading home, reigniting the confrontation.
Chirwa’s body was discovered the following morning by passersby at Chikampha Village.
A postmortem examination later revealed that he died from hypovolemic shock due to severe bleeding.
