Police in Blantyre have arrested two brothers after they were allegedly found in possession of 55 electronic devices suspected to have been stolen.

The suspects, identified as Steven Chigwembere (18) and Onesma Chigwembere (27), were arrested by officers operating from a police station located opposite Wenela Bus Stage.

According to police, the two brothers originate from Kaiya Village under Traditional Authority Chakhumbira in Ntcheu District.

Police said officers received a tip-off that the suspects were keeping a large number of assorted electronic gadgets believed to be stolen. Acting on the information, officers conducted a search at the suspects’ residence in Mbayani Township, where the devices were recovered.

Authorities say the recovered items include smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers of different brands. Most of the devices were reportedly password-protected, raising suspicion that they may belong to multiple owners.

Among the items recovered were several Samsung smartphones and tablets, iPhones, Huawei devices, Tecno and Redmi phones, as well as laptops and tablets from brands such as HP, Lenovo, Asus and Amazon.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the rightful owners of the recovered electronics and determine how the suspects obtained them.

The two suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges related to possession of suspected stolen property.
