The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has commended Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor, George Partridge, for his support of President Peter Mutharika’s fight against corruption. The organisation has also urged other public officials to emulate his firm and principled stance.

CDEDI Executive Director, Sylvester Namiwa, said the Governor’s actions reflect a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and the prudent management of public resources.

Namiwa further praised the Governor’s decision to withhold over K72 billion that was reportedly earmarked for the purchase of Amaryllis Hotel, describing the move as bold and necessary to safeguard public funds.

He added that the intervention underscores the central bank’s critical oversight role in preventing questionable transactions and ensuring that significant public expenditures are subjected to thorough scrutiny before approval.
