The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has announced it will not participate in the inquiry into the Chikangawa plane crash, citing concerns that its involvement could compromise the integrity of the process.

Opposition leader Simplex Chithyola Banda said the party has already presided over two separate inquiries into the matter and believes it is best to allow the current process to proceed independently.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Silvester Ayuba supported the move, arguing that individuals who have previously expressed positions on the matter should not be part of the inquiry to maintain credibility.

The party has also raised concerns over the composition of the committee. MCP spokesperson Moses Kunkuyu claims the committee is dominated by members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), calling for a more balanced representation.

However, Leader of the House Jappie Mhango has questioned MCP’s decision, suggesting the opposition’s motives for pulling out of the inquiry are unclear.
