Three-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Well in Nkhotakota

A three-year-old boy has died after drowning in a well at Msamala Village under Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota District.

Nkhunga Police spokesperson Andrew Kamanga confirmed the incident, saying the child was playing with friends at the time of of the accident.

According to Kamanga, the boy accidentally fell into the well while playing, prompting one of his friends to alert the child’s mother.

“The friend rushed to inform the mother, who immediately reported the matter to the village head before it was taken to Nkhunga Police,” said Kamanga.

The boy was later taken to Nkhunga Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death. Post-mortem results indicated that he died due to asphyxiation caused by drowning.

Police have since urged communities to take precautionary measures to ensure that wells and other hazardous areas are properly secured to prevent similar incidents, especially involving young children.
