Lusaka-based musician Dalisoul, whose real name is Madalitso Phiri, has been charged with multiple traffic offences following a road accident involving a police motorbike.

According to Zambia Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, the 42-year-old artist is facing charges of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. He has also been charged with driving without a road licence, failure to produce a fitness certificate, and lack of third-party insurance.

The accident occurred around 23:00 hours on Monday along Mosi-oa-Tunya Road in Lusaka, near a Puma filling station.

Police say the crash involved a Nissan Mitsuoka driven by Phiri and a Zambia Police Service BMW motorbike ridden by Inspector Kwibisa Mbuye, 39.

Inspector Mbuye sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Maina Soko Medical Centre, where he is currently receiving treatment. The police motorbike suffered extensive front-end damage, while Phiri escaped unhurt.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident happened after Phiri allegedly cut in front of the oncoming police motorbike, resulting in a collision.

Authorities have since impounded the vehicle for examination, and Daliso Soul is expected to appear in court soon.
