The family of late rap icon Tupac Shakur has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles, nearly 30 years after his killing, seeking justice and undisclosed damages.
The lawsuit names Duane Keefe D Davis as the main defendant, alongside other unnamed individuals believed to have been involved in what the family describes as a “complex conspiracy” to murder the rapper.
Davis, a former gang leader, is the only person ever charged in connection with Tupac’s death. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial, which is expected to begin in August.
According to court documents, the family believes Tupac’s killing in 1996 was not just retaliation after a confrontation, but part of a wider, organised plot involving multiple players. The lawsuit aims to uncover those who may have planned, financed, or executed the murder.
Tupac was shot four times in a drive-by attack in Las Vegas in September 1996 and died six days later at the age of 25.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential rappers of all time, Tupac sold over 75 million records and delivered hits such as Hit ‘Em Up and California Love, while also building a successful acting career.
The family says new evidence, including grand jury transcripts and material from a recent documentary, could finally help expose the full truth behind one of music’s most enduring mysteries.
