Msenjere Ward Councillor in Liwaladzi Constituency, Linda Nyirenda, has rescinded her resignation just a day after announcing her decision to step down from her position.
In a letter dated yesterday, Nyirenda said her change of heart follows consultations with her family and members of her political party. The councillor did not provide further details but indicated that the discussions influenced her decision to remain in office.
Nyirenda had initially submitted her resignation citing personal reasons and plans to pursue a new career path, a move that had raised questions among constituents and local political observers.
Nkhotakota District Elections Officer, Nickson Chimangeni, confirmed the latest development, stating that the matter has been referred to the Electoral Commission for guidance on the way forward.
Nyirenda was elected as councillor for Msenjere Ward under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) during the General Elections held on September 16, 2025.
The situation now awaits direction from the Electoral Commission regarding the status of her withdrawal and any potential administrative implications.
