Police in Kanengo have arrested a 36-year-old man, Jafali Jeke, after recovering 82 smartphones and other electronic devices believed to be stolen.

The arrest followed a police operation conducted on May 5, 2026, at Jeke’s residence in Lilongwe. According to authorities, the raid was prompted by a recent surge in reported break-ins in Area 25 and Nsungwi.

During the operation, officers seized a large number of assorted electronic devices, including smartphones, which are suspected to be linked to the burglaries that have unsettled residents in the affected areas.

Kanengo Police say Jeke is expected to appear in court soon, where he will face charges of being found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to identify the rightful owners of the recovered items and to determine whether the suspect may be connected to other theft-related cases in the city.
