A 38-year-old motorcycle taxi operator, Gowokani Nkunika, has died at Mzuzu Central Hospital after being assaulted by unknown attackers in Mzuzu.

According to his brother, Chigomezgo, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Monday near Mzuzu University, where Nkunika was reportedly attacked by thugs. He sustained severe injuries and was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he eventually died.

Nkunika was admitted alongside another victim, Chigomezgo Nyirongo, who was allegedly attacked by his own passengers in the Geisha area of the city. Nyirongo is currently receiving treatment in the ICU and remains in critical condition.

Northern Region Police spokesperson, Cecelia Mfune, has since appealed to motorcycle taxi operators to avoid operating during late hours, warning of increased security risks.

Police have not yet disclosed details regarding the suspects, and investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

Nkunika hailed from Chiwavi Village in Mzuzu, while Nyirongo comes from Traditional Authority Nthalire in Chitipa District.
