The High Court has dissolved all claims of traditional chieftaincy within Blantyre, declaring that there are no recognised chiefs operating in the city.

The ruling follows a case brought by residents from areas including Zingwangwa, Chimwankhunda, Manja, Nkolokosa, Money Men, Naperi and Soche East, who challenged individuals presenting themselves as traditional leaders.

During the hearing, lawyer for the applicants Cassius Chidothe argued that documents submitted by the respondents were invalid, as they were filed late and not properly sworn.

Presiding judge Rachel Sikwese agreed with the submissions, ruling in favour of the applicants and effectively dissolving all claims of chieftaincy within the city.

Those named in the case include Zizo Zingwangwa, Annie Zingwangwa and Esther Zingwangwa.

The decision is expected to reshape local governance in Blantyre, particularly in the affected areas.
