Police in Blantyre have arrested four Bangladeshi nationals on suspicion of entering Malawi illegally.

According to Limbe Police spokesperson Aubrey Singanyama, the suspects were arrested on 9 May this year at a lodge in the Kanjedza area following a tip-off from members of the public.

Singanyama said officers rushed to the location where the four individuals were allegedly found without valid immigration documents permitting them to stay in the country.

The suspects have been identified as Muhammad Tayab Ullah, 25; Anishr Rahman, 23; Farhadul Islam, 26; and Rasedul Islam, 23.

Police say investigations are still underway to establish how the four entered Malawi and whether there were any individuals involved in facilitating their movement into the country.

Authorities have since urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
