Police in Mangochi District have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly killing his biological father during a dispute over a bag of rice.
According to Mangochi Police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi, the suspect has been identified as White Mussa, while the deceased was George Mussa.
Daudi said White’s marriage had previously collapsed, forcing him to return and live at his father’s home.
However, after reportedly reconciling with his wife, White went back to his father’s house to collect his belongings. While there, he allegedly attempted to take a bag of rice belonging to his father.
Police say George Mussa refused to let him take the rice, leading to an argument between the two.
During the confrontation, White allegedly picked up a log and struck his father on the head, causing him to collapse unconscious on the spot.
Postmortem results later confirmed that George Mussa died due to severe head injuries.
