Lingadzi Police Station has arrested two suspects in connection with a theft case which occurred between February, 2026 and 4th May, 2026 at the Zambian High Commission Embassy Offices in Lilongwe.
The suspects have been identified as Owen Gombe an Accounts Clerk at the Zambian High Commission and Nicodem Kambiri a fuel attendant at Mantino Puma Filling Station.
According to reports the complainant, who is responsible for administration and consolidation of embassy accounts discovered on May 9, this year, that some fuel invoices issued by Mantino Filling Station contracted to supply fuel and lubricants to embassy vehicles were irregular.
It is alleged that some invoices were generated for a non-runner vehicle (5CD 2) and other vehicles, and were signed by the Accounts Clerk instead of authorized drivers, contrary to established procedures.
Further investigations have revealed that the two suspects were operating a syndicate where they collected cash under the pretense of purchasing fuel, but instead diverted the money for personal use without the knowledge of either the filling station management or embassy authorities.
The total amount stolen is estimated at K5.2 million according to the fraudulent invoices. The offences were committed between February, 2026 and May 4, 2026.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will appear before court soon to answer charges of theft.
Owen Gombe hails from Mbame Village, Traditional Authority Somba, in Blantyre District, while Nicodem Kambiri comes from Kamwela Village, Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi District.
