The Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court has scheduled August 16 to 19 for Dutch national Wim Akster to begin presenting his defense in a sodomy case.

Akster is accused of sodomizing young boys who benefited from a bursary scheme he managed while serving as finance director at Timotheous Foundation.

Chief Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha set the dates after Akster’s lawyer, Michael Goba Chipeta, asked for more time to prepare the defense because of other professional commitments.

Chipeta told the court that the defense intends to call 16 witnesses and denied allegations that the request was meant to delay the case.

Meanwhile, state prosecutor Victor Jere has applied for the revocation of Akster’s bail to help speed up the trial, with the court expected to rule on the matter at the next hearing.
