Winnie Nyondo Walks Free After Cyber Unit Verifies Facebook Post Date

Former aide to late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima, Winnie Nyondo, on Monday appeared before the Police Headquarters Cybercrime Unit at Area 30 in Lilongwe following a complaint linked to a Facebook post connected to the June 2024 military plane crash.
According to her lawyer, Nkhwima Mchizi, Nyondo reported to the police after a complaint originating from the Commission of Inquiry investigating the aircraft accident.
Speaking to Mibawa Television, Mchizi said the complaint alleged that Nyondo had published a social media post relating to the plane crash on June 10, 2024.
However, after forensic examinations conducted in the presence of Nyondo and her legal representative, police investigators reportedly established that the post was actually published on June 13, 2024.
The finding is said to differ from information presented to the commission during hearings held last week, where concerns were raised about the timing of the post.
Mchizi said Nyondo was allowed to return home without any charges being filed against her.
National Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo had not yet commented on the matter at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, blogger Gerald Chavez Kampanikiza has also weighed in on the development, claiming that the Cybercrime Unit’s findings support Nyondo’s testimony before the commission.
Kampanikiza further argued that the inquiry may have acted on incorrect information after Commission Chairperson Walter Nyamilandu was reportedly informed that the post had been made on June 10, 2024.
The development is likely to add another dimension to the ongoing discussions surrounding the findings and proceedings of the commission investigating the aircraft crash that claimed the lives of Chilima and eight others.
