Rising Malawian musician Loiso has donated K1 million the full payment for his performance scheduled for tomorrow to support the ongoing repatriation of Malawians displaced by xenophobic violence in South Africa.
The donation was announced by fundraiser coordinator Stanley Onjezani Kenani, who described Loiso as the first artist from Malawi’s creative industry to contribute to the humanitarian campaign.
“Thank you so much! Musician Loiso has donated K1 million, the fee for his performance tomorrow, to help in the repatriation efforts of Malawians in South Africa.
The Liver hitmaker has become the first creative to join the move by demonstrating humility.
The contribution has increased the campaign’s fundraising total to K14.8 million, bringing organizers closer to their goal of helping stranded Malawians return home safely.
Loiso now joins a growing list of individuals and organizations supporting the initiative, including Malawi-based South African medical doctor Dr. McBride Nkhalamba, who recently donated K5 million toward the same cause.
The fundraising drive was launched following escalating xenophobic attacks in parts of South Africa, which have forced hundreds of Malawians to seek refuge in temporary shelters while awaiting voluntary repatriation.
Kenani has encouraged more Malawians, businesses, and members of the creative industry to support the initiative, saying every contribution will help bring more affected families back home safely.
Those wishing to donate have been asked to send their contributions through Stanley Onjezani Kenani’s fundraising platform.
